HACHNOSAS KALLAH

Simchas are bittersweet for poor families in Eretz Yisroel. As they struggle to cover the cost of their simple event, they lose the opportunity to take in the joy of the moment, to appreciate the milestones they’ve reached. Oneg Shabbos V’Yom Tov helps parents walk their children down to the chuppah with various services that lighten the burden. The Oneg Shabbos V’Yom Tov hall allows families to host their event at a minimal cost, while they also receive special funding to cover the cost of furnishing the apartment and other expenses.

A 25 year old bochur spent Shabbos at the home of R’ Ephraim along with 150 other yeshiva bochurim. It was erev Purim and he wanted to sponsor the meal as a zechus that he should find a shidduch. R’ Ephraim told him that he doesn’t accept sponsorships for his Shabbos meals, but he can sponsor the Simcha of an orphaned bride. After Shabbos he wrote a check of $3,600.

“I was orphaned at a very young age, and though I was excited to start a new life when I became engaged, I felt terrible guilty to put more financial stress on my overburdened mother. Like a glass of cold water on a lifeless person, Oneg Shabbos V’Yom Tov suddenly walked into our life. With so much sensitivity, you helped us get to my special day without worries. Our family was revived. Our Simcha was whole.”
